A Class C motorhome is a medium-sized motorhome that combines a larger Class A motorhome with a smaller Class B motorhome, otherwise known as a camper van. It's known for its distinctive cab-over design, built with a cut-away chassis and an attached cab section. The cab-over space can be used for extra sleeping or storage.
A Class B+ motorhome is a cross between a Class B RV (camper van) and a standard Class C motorhome. The Compass AWD® and Gemini AWD® are classified as Class B+ RVs at Thor Motor Coach.
A Super C RV is built similarly to a Class C motorhome, but its engine's power and fuel type set it apart. Unlike traditional Class C rigs, Super C RV engines use diesel fuel and are built on a heavy-duty front-engine chassis.
A toy hauler is a motorhome with a garage-like space for storing and transporting outdoor equipment. Depending on the total weight of the load, the garage could be used to store dirt bikes, ATVs, snowmobiles, golf carts, kayaks, or canoes. At Thor Motor Coach, we have Outlaw® Class A and Class C toy haulers.
A Sprinter motorhome is a Class B or Class C RV built on a Mercedes-Benz® chassis. Mercedes-Benz® Class B RVs, also known as Sprinter Vans, are usually taller and wider than standard camper vans. Class C Sprinter RVs are more powerful than standard Class B motorhomes and offer many of the amenities available on luxurious Class A RVs, while being smaller than your traditional Class C RVs. All Sprinter models at Thor Motor Coach use diesel fuel.
Many people choose Super C motorhomes over Class C RVs because of their luxurious interior amenities, which are comparable to those found in a Class A RV. They are also highly sought after for their powerful diesel engines and excellent towing ability. While the engine of a Class C motorhome is a comparable option, a Super C RV’s power and towing capacity rank much higher.
Camping for extended periods or living full-time in a Class C RV is possible, considering these motorhomes feature onboard power, appliances, bathrooms, and sleeping areas. However, if you plan to be in any motorhome for several months, please reference your owner's manual to understand warranty coverage limitations. Learn more about long-term RVing in the following blog: The Hagen Family Looks Back on their First Year as Full-Timers.
At Thor Motor Coach, we have a few floor plans in our Class C RV lineup, which include a closet prepped with plumbing for a stackable washer and dryer. Specifically, the Four Winds® and Chateau® 29K, the Quantum® and Echelon™ KW29, and the Magnitude® and Omni® L35 and R36. For extra convenience, consider the Inception® and Pasadena® Super C RVs, which already have a stackable washer and dryer installed in every floor plan.
The width of a Class C motorhome varies depending on the model. Traditional Class C RVs, such as our Four Winds®, Chateau®, Echelon™, and Quantum® models, usually have a max exterior width of 8 feet and 3 inches (99 inches). On the other hand, Class C Mercedes-Benz® Sprinters, such as the Tiburon® and Delano®, typically have a max exterior width of 7 feet and 6 inches (90 inches).
A CDL is usually not required if the motorhome is for personal use. However, a CDL may be required for licensing or insurance if the RV is used in a commercial application. Anyone looking to purchase a motorhome should check all requirements in their state or province to make sure they clearly understand what is needed to operate the vehicle.

Cars can be towed behind your motorhome since all Thor Motor Coach Class C RVs come with a tow hitch. Vehicle owners must pay special attention to the recommendations for towing, as many of today’s cars, trucks, and SUVs cannot be towed with four wheels down. Also, there are restrictions on the speed and distance at which many vehicles can be towed. Visit our YouTube channel for an informational video on loading and towing.
Towing is based on the overall GCWR (gross combined weight rating) and the GVW (gross vehicle weight). To calculate the amount that can be towed, subtract the GVW from the GCWR. All Class C RVs from Thor Motor Coach are equipped with a trailer hitch. Read more about this in our helpful blog: Weights, Towing, and Capacity.
Many Class C models either include leveling jacks as a standard feature or offer them as an option. Some models also have stabilizer jacks that remove side-to-side sway when the motorhome is parked, but cost considerably less than traditional hydraulic leveling.
