Class B Motorhomes

Class B motorhomes, more widely known as camper vans, are the smallest RVs on the market. Built on an automotive van chassis, these motorhomes are also called conversion vans, travel vans, and adventure vans. Class B RVs are known for being nimble, fuel-efficient, and easy to maneuver, making them well-suited for solo travelers and couples who like to explore off the beaten path. Despite their compact size, these vehicles often include a kitchen, bathroom, bed, and living space. 

A Sprinter Van is a Class B motorhome built on a Mercedes-Benz® chassis that uses diesel fuel. These adventure vans are usually taller and wider than your average minivan and are also typically considered an excellent option for off-roading. The Sanctuary® and Tranquility® Sprinter Vans at Thor Motor Coach are great for outdoor enthusiasts.  

Gas mileage for Class B RVs differs depending on terrain and weight. However, camper vans are one of the most fuel-efficient options in the motorhome market, and we’d expect miles per gallon to range in the mid-to-high teens. 

While there is no universal standard for a camper van's length, height, and width, these models are usually the smallest in the RV industry. Most Class B vans range from 17 to 25 feet in length, 9 to 11 feet in height, and around 8 feet in width. However, to get precise dimensions, it’s best to check the specifications under the floor plan of your vehicle of interest.

A camper van is simply another term for a Class B motorhome. Class B RVs are built on an automotive van chassis and usually include the van manufacturer’s walls, roof, and floor. In comparison, a motorhome classified as a Class A or Class C is larger than a Class B van and typically has a strip or cab/cut-away chassis. During Class A and C applications, RV manufacturers construct the walls, roof, and floor and add these parts to the drivetrain and frame supplied by the chassis supplier.
